A boil is a deep localized bacterial infection that appears in the form of red lumps on the skin. Filled with pus, boils can cause a lot of pain. A boil big or small, irritates the skin considerably and requires treatment. Following are the ways to get rid of this skin infection:
An easy way to get rid of boils within a short time is to soak it with warm water. Doing this daily will reduce the pain and force the boil to pop up. Once the boil drains, immediately wash the skin with an antibacterial soap and apply a prescribed ointment to prevent spreading of the infection. One can cover it with a bandage if necessary, but it is also essential to wash the affected area everyday with warm water using a compress to heal the wound. The doctor may also ask the person to take certain antibiotics for recurrent or severe infections.
Herbal oils are well-known for curing skin disorders like boils. Tea tree oil and castor oil are some of the best home remedies for boils. Take a sterile cotton pad and put a small amount of castor oil on it. When you place the cotton pad over the boil, it will force the pus to come out of the boil. This in turn reduces the swelling which helps to accelerate the healing process. Or else, directly apply a drop of tea tree oil on the affected skin everyday after a bath to heal the boil.
Some natural pastes are also effective to treat this skin infection. Prepare a paste by mixing half a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar with a teaspoon of milk cream. Sprinkle some turmeric powder and mix it evenly with the paste. Now put this paste over the boil. Continue applying this mixture until the infection vanishes.
Combine half a cup of water with two and half teaspoons of cornmeal to make a paste, and then apply it to the boil. Let the paste remain on the skin until it dries up. Follow this skin care routine daily until the boil drains.
The healing properties of margosa are also useful for getting rid of this skin infection. Take half a liter of water and put a handful of leaves into it. Now heat the water until it starts boiling. Allow the water to boil till its volume decreases to ⅓ of its original quantity. Once the liquid gets cooled, apply it on the boils daily to cure this skin condition.
Rubbing a cube of ice over the boils will provide relief and prevent the condition from worsening. Applying ice cubes directly over the boils is not recommended as it causes irritation to the skin. Instead, one can wrap the ice in a piece of cloth and then apply it on the affected area.
Aloe Vera Gel
Aloe vera gel has a high medicinal value, as it displays antiseptic properties. So, applying it on the infected skin can work wonders to heal the condition.
Inadequate water intake can prolong the healing of a boil. So, it is essential to consume 8-10 glasses of water daily to get rid of this skin problem at the earliest. Following a healthy diet is equally important to speed up healing of boils. The diet should be rich in raw vegetables and fresh fruits. Fruits considered to be beneficial for various skin disorders including boils are as follows:
- Water Melons
In case the above treatment options do not work, consulting a dermatologist would be necessary to treat boils. Under any circumstances, the person should not try to burst the boil manually on his own as it may damage the underlying skin. A boil that is big in size may not break on its own. In such a case, the boil will be drained manually by surgical methods.
Certain precautions like maintaining proper skin hygiene and avoiding stepping out when the sun is at its peak can also contribute to get rid of boils at the earliest.
