Tea Bags
Take two tea bags, dip them in cold water for a minute and place them in refrigerator till they become adequately cold. You can use these tea pouches as cold compress. Close your eyes and place tea bags on your eyelids for at least 5 minutes. Now, remove them and splash cold water over your eyes. Chamomile tea bags are known to be very effective for this.
Honey
There are times when you cannot help but cry your eyes out. Though it's cathartic to just let the emotions flow out, it can leave you with a side effect of puffed up look. If this has happened to you, then don't worry. Just apply honey over your swollen eyes and leave it for about 20 minutes. Honey can cause a burning sensation, but it is definitely effective in curing tired and swollen eyes after crying. Make sure that you use good quality honey. Wash off with cold water and see the results.
Ice
Ice pack is very popularly used to cure problem of swollen eyelids caused due to various reasons. You can rub ice cubes over your eyes for a few minutes. Another way is to add ice cubes to cold water and dip two thick cotton pads in it. Now, place these cotton pads on your eyes for 10 minutes. You can also splash cold water over eyes for a few times throughout the day. If your eyes are swollen and itchy due to allergies, then a cold compress is the best way to get minor relief from itching and irritation.
Cucumber
Cucumber is known to be one of the most effective remedy for dark circles under eyes. Placing thin slices of cucumber on swollen eyes for about 15 minutes will give you relief. You can also grind a small piece of cucumber and apply it over your eyes and wash off after 15 minutes.
Essential Oil
The best way to reduce eye swelling from allergic reaction is using lavender and lemon oil. Mix equal amount of both the essential oils and half amount of boiled water. Apply this mixture over your swollen eyes and leave for half an hour. You can also dip cotton pads in this mixture and place them over your eyes to properly cover the swollen area.
If you have drank way too much last night and woke up with not only a terrible headache but also with eyes that show tell-tale signs of your binge drinking, then you need to come up with quick fixes to get rid of them. First, drink a lot of water as you are clearly dehydrated and strictly avoid caffeine-based drinks. You can also put a teaspoon in the freezer for a few minutes and then take it out to place it on your swollen eyes. Eye bags become an apparent problem with age. For this, some people seek relief through cosmetics while others stick to home-made remedies to get temporarily relief from this persistent problem. If the swelling is due to edema (water retention in the tissues), then changing your sleeping position can help you in some way. You can sleep with your head in an elevated position that can prevent the excess gravitational flow of fluid to your eyes.
Apart from the aforementioned remedies, you need to follow regular eye care. Using sunglasses is important for protecting your eyes from harsh sunlight and harmful allergens present in dust and polluted air. You can also massage your eyes with almond oil or aloe vera gel everyday before going to bed in order get rid of pollutants from your eyes. This will restore the beauty of your eyes and help them relax. Do not use eye drops without consulting your doctor. Ignoring eye problems is dangerous as it can lead to serious complications. It is recommended to consult an eye specialist in case of serious eye problems or even if a minor problem persists.
