It is always one's eyes that first attract attention. These are the most expressive features of the human body system. Moreover, eyes can express emotions, that even words cannot express. Puffy eyes make one look dull and fatigued all the time, no matter how energetic and agile one may be from inside. Also, it may cause the eyes to lose luster and become red, thereby making one look ill and stressed out.
It is mainly caused due to the lack of sufficient rest to the eyes. They also get tired after continuous stress and therefore lose their glow and sparkling appearance. Furthermore, the eyes do not get ample rest if one is affected by sleep disorders, one has a habit to sleep on the face, one is consuming a lot of salty food, and also if the body is dehydrated. All these factors lead to the accumulation of fluids around the eyes which contribute to their puffy appearance. However, it is a normal condition and can be cured. Here are some remedies that can be followed even at home.
Wash the Eyes
This is the simplest cure for puffy eyes. Eyes get stressed if they are subjected for a long time to staring at the computer screen, or if one reads a book for a long time without breaks in between. The moment one starts feeling tired and the eyes start burning, it is better to just wash the eyes with cold water. This would definitely refresh the eyes. Also, take care that one does not rub the eyes vigorously; gently massage the eyes. This would relax the delicate muscles of the eyes and one would certainly feel better.
This is one of the most widely followed remedies and it is also believed to be very effective. Simply lean back and keep two cucumber slices on the eyes and relax. One would feel fresh after some time.
Soothing Eye Cream
There are eye creams available that leave a soothing effect on the eyes. Always prefer creams with vitamin E and aloe vera contents. Apply this cream as directed on the pack and one would feel the difference.
This is another simple remedy that not only helps in getting rid of this condition, but also prevents one from getting affected by many other health disorders. One should drink plenty of water. Lack of water intake would lead to dehydration, which may further lead to puffy eyes. Therefore, in order to avoid dehydration one must consume a lot of water. Moreover, all the systems of the body would also remain clean.
This remedy involves the use of two moistened tea bags. First, add two tea bags in cold water and then chill them for sometime in the refrigerator. Then, place those tea bags on the closed eyelids for sometime.
Reduce Alcohol Consumption
One should reduce or stop excess alcohol consumption as it causes water retention in the body, which leads to this condition.
Egg Whites Treatment
Take some beaten egg whites along with one drop of witch hazel. Next, apply it with the help of a small brush under the eyes. This is an effective treatment to tighten the skin around the eyes and reduce the puffiness.
Just have a sound sleep for 7-8 hours at night. Resting the eyes for a sufficient duration helps in relaxing the delicate eye muscles, thus refreshing them.
On observation of the condition, one can try the aforementioned remedies that may prove useful. However, if the puffiness still persists, it is necessary to consult an ophthalmologist in order to rule out the possibility of any further complications. This is because, some cases like severe or persistent puffiness may be a sign of other major health problems.
