Lavender oil is obtained from the distillation of flower spikes of some species of lavender. It is a colorless, water insoluble oil whose density ranges from 0.885 g/ml to 0.905 g/ml. Alike other essential oils, lavender essential oil is a compound mixture of natural phytochemicals such as linalool and linalyl acetate. It is a favorite among herbalists as it can be used to treat a wide range of ailments.

Uses and Benefits
Lavender oil is an excellent tonic for the nervous system. Hence, lavender baths, showers, massage, and steam inhalation are often prescribed by herbalists. The purpose is to cure depression, anxiety, stress, nervous tension, mental stress, insomnia, headaches, etc. Massaging with this oil reduces pain and provides comfort from various types of ailments such as sore muscles, muscular aches, tense muscles, sprains, rheumatism, lumbago, backache, etc. It is usually recommended for external application.

The oil has antibacterial, antiviral, antiseptic, and antifungal properties. Therefore, it is used for treating skin disorders like acne, psoriasis, eczema, etc. It heals wounds, burns, cuts, and damage to skin caused by exposure to sun. Ear Infection Treatment
Lavender oil is a great remedy for ear infection. There are two main methods that you can use to treat ear infection with this oil. They are:
  1. Take a cotton ball, dip it in the oil, and squeeze it to remove excess oil. Place it at the opening of your ear. The fumes will reach the infected part of the ear and treat it with all its healing properties.
  2. Take 1-2 drops of the oil and spread it at the back of the affected ear. The back of the ear is where the mastoid bone is located. Massage the area gently with your fingers in a circular motion. Do it twice a day to cure ear infection and reduce earache. It may take a few days to give noticeable results.
You might be thinking of using lavender oil for improving your overall health. But, do not be in a hurry.
