Poison oak causes skin disorders are the body's allergic response to the oil that is present in this plant. Urushiol is the name of the oil that is responsible for the skin rash, itchy pustules, blisters, and swelling on the parts of the body, that have been affected by this oil. It is present in the sap of the plant.
An individual can come in direct contact with the oil of the plant, or through the animals and objects, that have come in contact with the sap. It takes nearly 24 - 48 hours for the symptoms to appear in this case. It causes skin irritation, or a feeling of discomfort. Some of the remedies to cure skin rashes that occur due to this plant have been mentioned below.
» Tea Tree Oil
Many people have found tea tree oils to be very effective in tackling the ill-effects of the allergy. People who have used tea oils have benefited from it, as the swellings and rashes have disappeared just within a few days of applying the tea tree oil.
» Jewelweed
The juices obtained from the stems of the jewelweed plant, can heal the rashes within an hour.
» Aloe Vera
Aloe vera is the most important herb that can reach deep inside the skin, and heal it from the allergy caused due to poison ivy.
» Warm Water
Taking a warm shower is an effective method to get a relief from the pain of the skin itches caused by the poison oak.
» Banana Tree
Rubbing the peel of a banana tree on the infected area helps a lot. The itching can go away within 10 to 12 hours of the day using this remedy.
» Watermelon
Watermelon is a source of vitamin C, that is very useful in the treatment of itching. Take watermelon, and rub its inner parts to the affected area. It will provide a lot of relief, and heal the rash quickly.
» Epsom Salts
Bring some Epsom salt from the market, and make a paste out of it. Apply this paste on the skin rash. This will help you eliminate the complications of poison oak.
Apart from the above mentioned remedies, you can also use lime juice. Take one tablespoon of turmeric spice, and mix it with equal parts of lime juice. Apply the paste on the affected area and let the paste dry for sometime. Ensure that the paste doesn't touch the clothes or other materials, as it will stain them. Let the mixture set on your skin for fifteen minutes, and then wipe off the excess paste. Let it dry. As time passes you will observe the magical effect of the paste, which will help you cure the skin rash.
