Pressure points have been used in the Japanese culture for many centuries to help heal the body and the mind. It was often a part of martial arts to attack an opponent. A number of lifestyle related ailments can also be treated using the pressure points, such as stress, pain, discomfort, etc. The most effective pressure points of the body are located in the neck and neck area. Of all the pressure points, the most important is the temporal lobe pressure point. If the temporal lobe pressure point is hurt or pressed hard, it can cause death. In traditional Chinese medicine there are 100 acupressure points defined. But very rarely are all the human body pressure points used, as there are certain points, which are difficult to find.
About Pressure Points
The pressure points are normally located on a meridian, which corresponds to a specific organ. If the meridians are manipulated, it will result in different reactions in the corresponding organs. To find the correct pressure points, knowledge of meridian, element, yin-yang division, etc. is required. A number of pressure points are located in the palms, fingers and thumbs, side of the hand, wrists, etc. To relieve pain and relax oneself mild pressure has to be applied to the pressure points for a few minutes. When pressure is applied on the pressure point, there should be no movement.
List of Pressure Points in the Body
Each of the pressure point has a corresponding pressure point, usually on the other side of the body. Pressure points on the right side of the body have a corresponding point on the left side at the same location. Similarly, the points on the hands have their corresponding points on the feet. The pressure points on the arms have the corresponding points on the legs.
Third Eye: This pressure point is located between the eyebrows, where the nose bridge meets the forehead. It is called the 'third eye', because the Indian God Shiva is said to possess a third eye, which is located precisely at the same location. This pressure point is used to calm the body and relieve the nervous system of tension.
Sea of Tranquility: This pressure point is so-called, as it is used to relieve anxiety and depression, nervousness, tension, hysteria and emotional imbalances. It is located at the center of the chest bone, approximately three thumb-widths upwards from the base of the bone.
Spirit Gate: The Spirit Gate pressure point is located on both the arms and on the wrist crease below the little finger. Use this pressure point of the body for alleviating emotional imbalances, heart palpitations, insomnia forgetfulness, nervousness, anxiety and fear.
Crooked Marsh: This pressure point relieves arm and elbow pain, anxiety and stomach problems. It is located on the arms at the lower end of the elbow crease, where the arm is bent.
Inner Gate: This pressure point is located two and half thumb-widths from the inner side of the wrist towards the elbow. The inner gate pressure point helps relieve nausea, palpitations and wrist pain.
Heavenly Pillar: The heavenly pillar pressure point is located at the base of the skull in the muscle on either side of the neck. To be more precise it is located about half inch to the left and to the right of the base of the skull. Use this pressure point to alleviate stress, insomnia, over exhaustion, sore throat, swollen eyes, eyestrain and for heaviness in the head.
Heavenly Rejuvenation: This is a pressure point which works very well for the lungs, and it increases immunity to cold and flu. You can use this point to relieve nervous tension, stiff neck as well. The heavenly rejuvenation pressure point is located between the base of the neck and the outside the shoulder going down towards the back.
The different pressure points are actually just a bundle of nerves. Therefore, be careful before you use any one of the pressure points, as these points can cause severe pain as well as intense pleasure. These pressure points of the body can be used to heal a wound on the body and at the same time it can be used to hurt people as well. But before you use it on any one, you should master the pressure points.
