Removal of unwanted materials from the body is necessary to keep it in a healthy and functioning state. This article tells you about some colon cleansing procedures.
Following are the different methods that can be used for colon cleanse.
Colon Hydrotherapy
Colon hydrotherapy is also known as colon irrigation or high colonic. It is based on the detoxifying ability of water. It is performed by a medical professional. The devices used are disposable speculums or gravity-based enema-like arrangements. The hydrotherapy colon cleansing procedure involves insertion of a known quantity of water into the intestine. This is called input. When the body expels it out, again the quantity of water is noted. It is referred to as output. The output contains toxins from the colon. The hydrotherapy procedure is repeated for a certain number of times. It depends upon the severity of toxin accumulation in the intestine, and is decided by the health care practitioner conducting hydrotherapy.
Enema
Enema is the insertion of a fluid through the anus to stimulate evacuation. It is conducted with a special device that comprises a mug to contain the materials, a tube to transport the material and a nozzle to insert into the anus to allow the liquid to get inside and reach the colon. The liquid injected comes out, bringing out toxins from the colon.
Herbs
The use of herbs for cleansing colon is one of the widely used methods. It is preferred over other procedures, because it is relatively easy. The herbs commonly used for colon cleansing are Terminalia chebula, Eclipta alba, Psyllum husk and Indian gooseberry. You cannot choose any of these herbs and expect the desired results. The choice depends upon the type of unnecessary substance that needs to be eliminated from the body. Therefore, it is always safe to consult a herbalist to find out the herb most suitable for your case. For example, if you wish to get rid of intestinal parasites, a herbalist is most likely to prescribe you Emblica ribes and Butea monosperma.
Colon Cleansing at Home Using Herbs
You need to prepare your body for the procedure. First of all, stop any medication that is not necessary. You can discuss with your general physician to find out which medicines can be kept off for sometime. If you are taking some kind of health tonics, stop them. Many people believe that fasting for a day prior to colon cleansing makes the process go smoother. However, this has not yet been proven. Therefore, fasting before colon cleanse is not necessary.
Those who are underweight should not consider it. Still, if you wish to fast, then make sure that you take sufficient amounts of water. To rule out dehydration, take water mixed with a little salt twice or thrice a day. In addition to this, you may take pure and fresh fruit or vegetable juice. It is advisable to stay away from chocolate, black tea, candy, and pasteurized milk.
The materials required for the basic procedure include activated charcoal or Bentonite clay, two glasses of water and psyllum husk powder. Take a glass of water and add a teaspoon each of Bentonite clay and psyllum husk to it. Mix all these ingredients well to make a shake. It is known as P&B shake. Drink it. Have ½ a glass of plain water after it. This will help to get the shake down. It is worth mentioning here that you should not drink P&B shake while eating anything. To get the best possible and safe results, have it at least two hours before or after a repast.
Drink a glass of P&B shake for the next three days. On the fourth and fifth day, take it twice. Take a glass of P&B shake thrice on the sixth day. Increase the intake of P&B shake by one more glass on the seventh day. From this day onwards, continue drinking four glasses of P&B shake for a month. Experts suggest continuing it for two months.
Keep Yourself Hydrated
Your body needs to be well hydrated throughout the colon cleansing procedure. Drink 9 – 10 glasses of water everyday. Avoid having coffee, tea, carbonated drinks or canned juice. Drink plain water. You may take herbal tea and fresh fruit or vegetable juices.
The expected aftereffect of colon cleansing is detoxification, i.e., removal of most of the toxins from the body. But such a flushing out of substances from the body may take away good bacteria or probiotics along with them. Your body needs probiotics to maintain its health and overall well-being. Therefore, an ideal option to restore the probiotics is to take probiotic or kefir shake after the procedure is complete. This will help in replenishing the useful bacteria in your colon.
To keep the results persistent for long, you should take care of your diet and lifestyle. Follow a balanced diet and exercise moderately but regularly.
