There are several elements that trigger an eye infection, including bacteria, virus, fungi, parasites, or a foreign body. It can also be brought upon by indiscriminate use of contact lenses. Redness, irritation, white or yellow discharge, swelling of eyelids, pain, difficulty while blinking, and photophobia are common symptoms of an eye infection. With the eye being one of the most sensitive parts of our body, these home remedies are a safe option to try, in order to get rid of the discomfort.
Treatments for Eye Infection
Using a compress is an effective eye infection treatment. Use chamomile, lavender, or rose oil to make a warm compress. Dab this on your eyes using a clean cloth, 3 times a day.
Aloe Vera
Aloe vera is known to be a natural remedy for various skin and health problems. It can also be used to soothe the eyes. Take some fresh aloe vera juice and soak it in a cloth. Close your eyes and place this cloth over them for a cool feeling. Use this 4-5 times a day.
Take a teaspoon of turmeric powder and 2 cups of water, stir it well to form a mixture. Boil this mixture and keep stirring to make sure that no granules are left. This is good eyedrop solution which can be used to treat eye infection effectively.
Honey is a great ingredient available in the kitchen to treat tired eyes. You can make a soothing eyewash by mixing 2 tbsp. honey and 2 cups boiling water. Stir well, cool it, and use 2 times a day.
Jasmine Flowers
Take eight jasmine flowers and add them to a glass jar filled with distilled water. Cover the jar and leave it overnight. You can use this water the next day as eye drops.
Coriander Seeds
Take 1 cup water and 1 teaspoon coriander seeds. Add the seeds to water and boil this mixture. It makes a good eye wash to clean your eyes and treat eye infection.
You must also follow some precautions so that the infection is cured soon. Avoid swimming until the infection is cured, as the chlorinated water can be harmful for the eyes. Also, keeping your eye very clean is of prime importance. Wash it a number of times each day by flushing filtered cold water. Make sure that the water you use is clean. Holding your eye open in an eye glass filled with water and blinking it is also a great remedy to cure eye infection. You should not scratch or rub your eyes with your fingers or a tissue; this will only aggravate the irritation. Also, you can use sterilized cotton balls or a clean Q-tip to mop the watery discharge from your eyes. While using any of the above options, make sure your hands and the equipment you use are clean. Remember that keeping your eyes clean is an essential part of the treatment and also helps prevent further infections. If you notice an increase in the eye infection you must consult your doctor immediately. Take good care of your eyes and maintain proper hygiene to keep away from infections.
