Neroli oil is an essential oil prepared from the flowers of the bitter orange tree (Citrus aurantium). These flowers are too delicate and so are handpicked. As they cannot withstand steam distillation, water distillation is preferred for making neroli oil. This oil has a pale yellow color and is thin in consistency. It has a pleasant floral smell, which is sometimes compared to that of bergamot. The oil has long been used for its aroma, and it is one of the ingredients in many commercial fragrances. Eau-de-cologne is a popular product that contains neroli oil as an ingredient.
